I am the PI of the CCNLL, PI of an NSF-funded Research-Traineeship (NRT) program (Science of Learning & Art of Communication [SLAC]), co-director of the Cognitive Science Shared Electrophysiology Resource Lab (CSSERL, pronounced /sis^rl/), a Professor in the UConn Department of Psychological Sciences in the Language & Cognition PhD program within the Perception-Action-Cognition division.
I am also a Group Leader at the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain, & Language (BCBL), in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain. I lead the Computational Neuroscience group at the BCBL. I’m also an Ikerbasque Research Professor (Basque Science Foundation, Bilbao, Spain). I will be based in Spain for the 2021-22 academic year, and will spend spring semesters there beginning in 2023.
I received an AB in Linguistics from the University of Chicago (1993) and a PhD in Brain & Cognitive Sciences from the University of Rochester (2001, advised by Mike Tanenhaus and Dick Aslin). Click here to see my CV. Lab publications are available at the Publications page.
My research interests include: Neurobiology of language; speech perception; spoken word recognition; sentence processing; reading; language development; developmental and acquired disorders of language; computational models as theory-building tools; developing comprehensive understanding of language plasticity over the lifespan from cognitive, neural and genetic perspectives through interdisciplinary collaborations.
